    Carl Johnson

    Role Within the Club

My role is to administer all the beginners’ courses and taster sessions. I coordinate the coach attendance at these events, ensure the smooth running of the courses and taster sessions on the day and with Mike Cale, check and maintain all the beginners’ equipment. I also help new members off the beginner’s line to integrate smoothly into the club via the new members programme. Like all the coaches, I am the face of the club to course participants who are also prospective members of the club. All of us coaches really try our best to make the course fun, interesting and challenging.

What I Do When I'm Not Shooting

I have a large garden with a fish pond to maintain (SIGH, GROAN). I love keeping my lawns neat and tidy. Occasionally, I still do part time training work in education with teaching assistants. I go to church most Sunday mornings unless we have an all-day shoot worth going to (God doesn’t keep a register!!). Eunice, my wife, and I do representational work for a charity called Cardiac Risk in the Young following the death of our daughter 10 years ago form Young Sudden Cardiac Death.

    Bow Types

I started shooting freestyle recurve when I finished my course but when I trained to be a coach I decided to try bare bow recurve and would not shoot anything else now.

    Things I'm Most Proud Of

Being healthy and active at 68 years of age! Really proud of the 2016 training programme I put together when elected as Training Coordinator in 2015. I won the gent’s bare bow trophy in 2015 at the Dave Clarke Memorial Indoor Triple Shoot at Duston Bowmen. It was their 60th club anniversary shoot and so got to keep the trophy! This was my old club where I shot as teenager 50 years ago and was taught to shoot by Dave Clarke himself. Proud to be an archer again and proud to be a grandad with the privilege of bring up my grandson after his mum died. Really proud of him.

    Role Within the Club

The Secretary's role is to make sure that the club's communications function effectively. Main tasks are to act as the first point of contact for the club, deal with or delegate the admin duties, ensure that members have access to necessary documents, arrange committee meetings and set the agenda and take minutes at the meetings and distribute them afterwards.

What I Do When I'm Not Shooting

Along with my partners I run my own business supplying technical equipment and services for live events.

    Bow Types

Sighted Recurve, which Robin Hood would have used, were they invented at the time (and if he was in fact, real).

    Things I'm Most Proud Of

Winning two trophies at the club and getting my First Class badge. Getting this website up and running (which it hopefully still is! Well at least this page must be, since you're reading it).

    Goals for 2016

Shoot more(!) and get my Bowman classification.

    Other Skills

Web design and programming, Make Up Special Effects, Filmmaking, Photography, Writing.

  • Field Captain Open or Close

    fieldcapt 100pxField Captain

    Grant Beresford

    Role Within the Club

My role has two functions. The first is when I am at the field where I am responsible for ensuring everyone is shooting safely (there is irony there) and to that extent I will generally organise and run the main shooting line. Away from the field I develop the summer and winter fixture lists including arranging the dates of our friendlies with other clubs. For some shoots such as the friendlies and for the club championships I will prepare the target lists prior to the event so that things run more smoothly. I also work with our Club Rep. (Andre) on planning and running our fun shoots. I also run the indoor shooting sessions at the Crescent School in Selhurst.

    Date Elected

What I Do When I'm Not Shooting

When not shooting I am obliged to pay the bills by working as a civil servant, at the moment that's for the Department for Transport.

    Bow Types

I shoot barebow because all other styles (except Longbow/traditional) are clearly cheating. Robin Hood never had a sight or stabilizers.

    Things I'm Most Proud Of

Last year (2015) I finally managed to win an external tournament - becoming Men's Barebow Champion at the Yateley Archers Open Shoot.

    Goals for 2016

To finally get my Bowman classification

    Other Skills

Shouting and using the Field Captain's whistle.
